This is a fitness class that focuses on the basics of functional movement. Great for first times, deconditioned adults, and anyone looking to improve their activity level. We work on balance, memory, flexibility, breathing, strength, cardio, etc. The class includes a variety of seated and standing exercises and is a perfect start for most seniors. Please contact the GV office at

“Climate and Climate Change:  What Is It and Why Should We Care?”

  Dr. Kaper is a research mathematician currently affiliated with Georgetown University.  Dr. Kaper came to Washington DC in 2001, when he joined the National Science Foundation (NSF) as Program Director for Applied and Computational Mathematics.  Before joining NSF, Dr. Kaper spent almost 40 years as a staff scientist at Argonne National Laboratory.  His most recent research is focused on planet Earth, in particular Earth’s climate system and the impact of climate change on sustainability, biodiversity, food, energy, and water systems.  He is the co-author of several books and more than 100 articles in professional journals.

"America's Future: Some Perspectives On The Roles On Education"

Dr. Usdan, who worked on the staff of the late Dr. James B Conant in the latter’s famous studies of American education has taught at Columbia University, City University of New York, Northwestern and Fordham Universities.  He served as President of the  Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) from 1981 to 2001 when he became a Senior Fellow at the organization.

his is a one hour walking tour (avoiding hills and staying in flat areas) of the Georgetown Heights neighborhood led by Dwane Starlin, member of the Guild of Professional Guides of Washington DC.

The tour will begin and end at the Georgetown Village offices. We will have lunch after the tour at Martin’s Tavern and Dwane will join us. Dwane Starlin has lived in Washington DC for 35 years (originally from Colorado). He is an actor-performer who specializes in historical characterizations in addition to being a licensed tour guide. He has worked for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History portraying John Henry, Clarence Darrow, Mark Twain, John Philip Souza, Walter Cronkite, and Robert Frost.

Want to learn this exciting game...or brush up on your skills? Join with other interested members on October 8th, for "An Afternoon of Canasta" to learn the ins and outs of this popular game. Our Board President Gail Nordheimer will be the coach, teaching you tips and tricks and helping to refresh the memory of those of you who used to play. We will meet at the home of Pat Scolaro.

he Marine Corps Heritage Foundation

 The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation dedicates itself to preserving and sharing the traditions, history and culture of the U S Marine Corps.  The National Museum of the Marine Corps. shares with us the American story of the Corps’ contributions, sacrifices, valor and victory.  Overlooking the museum, the Semper Fidelis National Park is designed as a place of remembrance and reflection.  Visitors can walk its paths to view the monuments and visit the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel.  We will also view the 38- minute film, “We, the Marines” at the Medal of Honor Theatre.
